Paul L. Dillon is a founding member of the firm. He first came to Alaska in the early 1970’s, prior to attending law school. During that sojourn, he commercially fished and traveled throughout the state. His love for Alaska brought him back following his graduation from law school. Paul received his B.A. in 1972 from Windham College. He received his juris doctorate from Fordham University in 1979. Following his graduation from Fordham, Paul moved to Juneau, Alaska where he practiced with a statewide commercial firm. In 1990, he left that firm to form Dillon & Findley, P.C.
Paul’s legal interests are centered on complex civil litigation with a particular interest in class action litigation involving insurance disputes and insurance bad faith. He has earned a reputation for aggressively litigating extremely difficult and complex cases including large class action cases involving hundreds of class members, medical malpractice actions, and toxic exposure cases. While he enjoys complex civil litigation, Mr. Dillon’s practice remains grounded in assisting his statewide neighbors with their legal problems.
Paul has strong community ties throughout the State of Alaska. Each year, through his oversight, Dillon & Findley, P.C. sponsors a local indoor soccer tournament and other educational and sports related activities. Paul has taught classes at the local high school in Juneau and teaches constitutional law at the University of Alaska’s southeast campus.
Ray R. Brown was admitted to the Alaska bar in 1982 following his graduation from Gonzaga University School of Law with honors. He has an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and completed the Trial Practice Institute of the National Criminal Defense College in 1991. Ray went to law school to become a trial lawyer and has been blessed with fulfilling that dream throughout his career.
Following his admission to the bar, Ray served as a senior felony trial attorney and later as the training director for the Alaska Public Defender Agency. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney with the State of Alaska Department of Law, Criminal Division where he prosecuted serious felonies.
After leaving his criminal practice, Ray came to Dillon and Findley in 1992 and became a shareholder with the firm in 1994. Since coming to Dillon and Findley, Ray's practice has been limited to complex civil litigation and civil trial work as well as white-collar federal criminal defense. His main areas of civil practice include plaintiff's medical malpractice and serious injury or death cases.
Ray has tried to verdict in excess of 150 cases. He is an "AV" rated lawyer in Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 2003 and Alaska Super Lawyers since 2007. He is a past member of the Alaska Bar Association Board of Governors and is a frequent presenter at Trial Advocacy programs. He is a member of the Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Association for Justice.
Mauri Long has been a shareholder in the firm since 1997. Her legal interests lie in trial work and litigation, although she has been known to write a mean appeal brief. She enjoys the challenges of learning and applying the science necessary to litigate complex medical issues. Mauri’s balanced, patient, and considerate nature make her especially effective in complicated and lengthy litigation. She is good at explaining complex things simply and enjoys providing moral support for her clients.
Mauri attained her law degree from the University of Oregon in 1989, then worked as a law clerk for Judge (now Justice) Dana Fabe before joining the Alaska Public Defender Agency as a trial attorney in early 1991. Since beginning work with Dillon & Findley, P.C. in 1993, Mauri has attended the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia, the Harvard Law School Negotiation Workshop, and both attended and taught in programs on trial practice through the Alaska Bar Association, American Association for Justice, and other organizations dedicated to maintaining a high level of skill among practicing lawyers.
In 1996, Mauri was elected President of the Alaska Academy of Trial Lawyers where she served until 1998. That same year she was elected by lawyers in the Third Judicial District to the Alaska Bar Association, Board of Governors, where she has since served, including as President-Elect in 2000-2001, and President in 2001-2002. Since 1999 she has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America.
